Uluru - Ayers Rock

Nineteen of us went by coach to the famous Uluru - Ayer's Rock.

The's the rock behind us...
...it is a single monolith. Somewhere back 400 million years ago, the sedimentary layers got shoved around and tilted 85 degrees so it's like a sandwich on end. It is a sacred site to the aboriginals with many stories that fit into their culture. We drove around it stopping at some of the features...

After excursions elsewhere in the area, we returned to Uluru for its amazing colour at sunset,
An Australia barbecue that night - we had kangaroo filets and crocodile sausage... very good... and then a short night with an early start to go to King's Canyon.
